We have a 13-year-old shih tzu who has been living well for four years with diabetes (on 2 X 8.5 ml Vetsulin daily with meals). She recently swelled up with fluid, her heart murmur got worse, and she had several seizures. She was brought to Angell Mem. Vet hospital in Boston where they stabilized her and released her, prescribing liquid Viagra and Lasix for the heart problem and only about 1/2 the Vetsulin. After a couple of days home, she won't eat and her blood sugar is very high, causing her to drink a lot.. Help!

Take her back to the vet. Sounds like her dose needs to be changed.

Sorry to hear about your shih tzu! I don't know much about diabetes. I hope she gets well. I would go back to the vet as soon as possible. Maybe call them right away and tell them what's going on. There may be something temporary you can do at home in the mean time.

Good luck!
