Is ear candling safe and effective? I have had it done once and it did not reduce the "gurgling" in my ear but I did see the amount of wax that was suctioned out (very shocking). I am getting differing opinions on the matter such as it is just a hoax and not at all effective.

Ear candles are put together with beeswax, looks much like ear wax to be quite honest with you. Some people swear by it, some people think it is hokey. I used to work for a woman who did ear candling, helped her assemble them, etc. but when she announced that she had got a lot of ear wax out of someone's ear, it looked exactly like the beeswax we used to assemble the candles. So, leave it up to you to decide. There is a great chance of setting someone, and the technician on fire with those things as well... not safe in my opinion.

I had this done once. And after I had it done I instantly got one of the worst colds I have ever had in my life. I was perfectly fine before I had it done then once it was over my head got all stuffy and I was sick for a week. I know I can't blame the ear candling since I really have no proof I got a cold from that. But I am blaming it anyway :) My wife and two of her friends also had it performed on them right before I did and they were just fine.

I know people who love it, and those who never heard of it, and others hate it. So you have to make up your own opinion.

I doubt there is any danger, just not sure it works

I don't know for sure about ear candling being effective, although working with them didn't prove anything to me, but I certainly know they are a fire hazard. They have to be lit to 'work', for lack of a better word, and I have seen lab coats set on fire with them.

I learned something today. Never heard of this before. Here's a site I found:
Why Ear Candling Is Not a Good Idea (http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/candling.html)

I guess sticking a burning wick in your ear makes as much sense as sticking one in your mouth. I smoke so this might be right up my alley.

Forgot to mention, saw a couple of hairdos set on fire, and one beard when I worked for that spa.
