I have a minitature yokshire terrier that is 13 weeks and since I got her she has had a terrible itch, she has got all her injections and the vet said there was nothing to worry about but the itch is driving her mad and its so bad at times she cries, I treated her with the shampoo the vet suggested and changed her food to what he suggested and there has been no improvement. Has anyone come across this problem before? Thanks

If there are no fleas or mange, than I would say it sounds like an allergy. It may be just a trial and error until you find a food that works for her. A lot of dogs have wheat allergies. I like using holistic foods.

You can try adding some omega oils, such as a can of sardines including the oil, or you can get omega supplements from your vet.

It could also just be dry skin. Depending on your environment, you can try using a humidifier in your main room. That helps a lot with dry skin for both you and your dog!

Lesson #1... food a vet prescibes is never quality. A good food to maybe try out would be evo. Its formulated for all stages and has absolutely no grains, soy or any other ingredient dogs have a possible allergy to.

Here's evos webpage in case your interested. There is also an option to find a store who sells it in your area... EVO Premium Dog Food, Natural Cat Food, Healthy Dog Treats – Natura Pet Products (http://www.naturapet.com/brands/evo.asp)

Finding what is causing your puppy to itch so bad is going to cost money and time. It could very well be a quick fix with a food change, or it could be environmental. You should request an allergy test just to be sure she isn't allergic to anything.

She could also have dry skin due to climate and the season change. Also, it could be habit. She could be bored and scratching is a way for her to relieve her boredom. It could be from anxiety. Sometimes when dogs get overly excited or nervous, they do strange things, such as itching excessively. She could also be an obsessive compulsive when it comes to itching. A small, minor itch could trigger the obsessiveness. If so, just redirect her to do something else.

Her itchies literally could be 100 different things. Just start exploring your options and do trial and error. Read articles on why dogs itch. Maybe shell match one of the symptoms.

Good luck
