Hi,
I've tried to install a new ceiling light in my old flat. First I disconnected the wires coming out of the ceiling from the junction box connecting them to the light wires. There were 3 wires out of the ceiling, all brown, but only two were connected to the box. Then I tried to install the new light through another junction box -the light had two wires, one red and one blue but it comes from france, not the UK, so I am starting to question whether the electrical systems are compatible. Anyway I had no clue about which wire the blue or red one should be connected to, since the ceiling ones were all brown. I tried and swapped them but none worked.
Then I tried to reinstall the old light, because the new one definitely didn't work, but then it did not work either, and moreover the other ceiling lights in the flat are now burnt out!
Anybody can help?I don't know much about electricity so any good advice is welcome! I'd like at least to reinstall the old light, so the other ceiling lights work properly again.
Thanks!

Is this a pull chain light of is switch on wall?
