I am looking for my dad's biological parent's. He was born Dec. 31, 1965 or 1964. He was born in Jamestown or Bismark, ND. I would like to get some answers because having my dad being adopted leaves me wondering what my heritage is. All I know is my mom's side of the family but I would love to know my other half, especially since I have a son now. How would I go about finding out this information because I know in the 60's, adoption was closed. Please help me.

Thank You.

You really only have a couple of options.

1. hire a private detective. This could get very expensive, very fast. Especially if those involved are deceased.

2. Register on reunion websites and hope for a response.

May I ask why your dad is not searching? This is really HIS heritage you're talking about. Please remember, too, that birthmothers prior to the age of open adoption were PROMISED that their information would be hidden forever.

If there is a serious medical problem, you can often get adoption records opened enough to get medical information, but ONLY if there is a serious problem--and we're talking about needing organs, hereditary diseases like hemophilia, etc. But other than that, your father's adoptive family is his "heritage", and therefore yours as well.
