Furnaces & duct work? Guys, wife wants a humidifier with the new furnace and Ac system putting in for it gets somewhat dry in the house during the Winter months. I'm worried about mold and mildew build up with the humidifier putting moisture through the ducts and in the furnace & psooibly dripping back down into the furnace. Should I be worried about this or is the moisture so little that it won't be a problem?

Thanks,

AJ

If you ask anyone else they will probably tell you not to worry, and that having a humidifer is a great investment. As for me I hate installing them. I have never seen them really do anything, but make a water mess that you are refuring too. I even installed one in my own house just to run some tests, it would only raise the humidity level 2 - 4 % so it would stay around the 22- 24% mark all winter before the install 20 to 23 %

Mould in dwellings is primarily caused by lack of ventilation. If the system works on a return/exhaust basis then the humidifier won't make any difference with regard to the mould.
