I have a checking account with my girlfriend , today we just learned they put a lien on it for Child Support . Can they put a lien on a joint account and what can I do to get them to lift the lien. They advise me to send in copies of aLL the checks deposited into the account along with bank statements. I have a Child Support order in effect already but because I work temp assignments it goes from one company to the next. The lady stated that they haven't received a payment in a month.

Of course, they can garnish and freeze any account that you are a account owner , even joint. In fact if you tried to do fraud and put your money into an account that is not in your name, if they prove it, they can freeze that one also.

So what the other person, has to do, is prove it is their money. Any money you put in, can be froze, any money put in by the other person may be released.

So they will have to prove what percent of the bank money is thiers.

And how for behind are you ? Child support is monthly even if you are not working, so when you are between temp jobs are you still sending in payments ?
