I'm trying to find the name of a movie I saw when I was a younger girl. So here's what I remember:
there was an english or american white teenage guy who can sketch really well and I think he goes to live with a native american indian teenage boy and his father. The two boys become really good friends after overcoming their initial differences and I vaguely remember the white boy being taught how to hunt. I think a lot of the story is told in a diary form with the white guy explaining their lives. I remember being really in love with the american indian guy because he had long hair ^_^ there was lots of mentioning of the guys sketches and diary notes in the movie.
any help??

I don't remember the name, but I think I know what you are talking about. The white boy and his family go to a piece of land. They didn't bring much, just scouting out a place to live. The father leaves the son there to build the settlement while the family goes back to get all their stuff. They are supposed to be back by the end of the summer, but the road they were taking never got finished. In the mean time the boy befriends the Indians, he is taught how to hunt and fish. I think he spends most of the winter with them, and they are going to leave. They want him to come with him but he refuses so he can wait for his family.

If that sounds about right, then you will have more details for someone else to pinpoint the movie, if it is wrong, I am sorry... that the first thing that came to mind.

Possibly Keeping the Promise (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119454/)

That sounds like the one I was talking about... but I don't know if it is the same as the OPs.

Nah that's not it. The boys were older, maybe in their later teens, I think the white boy may have fallen in love with the indian sister? Or maybe I dreamt that. But I don't think there was much about the white guys family, just him.
Thanks though!!

It was out around the same time as Squanto, because I remember seeing them both at blockbuster video store. Then got upset because they took the other one away and left Squanto (which I never watch because I begrudged it for staying) lol
