I have a 2002 GE Electric dryer (purchased new). It started squeaking and squealing with this high pitch sound that is loud! We put a little bit of oil on idler pulley and it quieted for one day then came back. We replaced the idler pulley and arm and it stopped for three days. Now the squeak/squeal is back. If I replaced the wrong part, why would it help temporarily. I'm at a loss and have read many of the posts but which one is right for my dryer. Help, please. Thanks in advance, Sally

I would try belt dressing and tightening the pulleys. That may help. You can also throw a little grease (not oil) on the center of any pulleys/gears.

Don't apply any lubricants to any part of the dryer. All bearings are dry bearings. They are not supposed to have lubricants on them because it makes the hair and lint and other debris collect on the shafts. The idler pulley is not adjustable... it's spring loaded... nothing you can do about the tension on the belt. Most likely it's the bearing that supports the rear of the drum. You would have had to remove the drum to access the idler pulley therefore disassembling the rear bearing components. The rear bearing has an insert that should be replaced. It's pretty cheap and should get rid of the squeak. Post again if you have further questions.
