During my period I feel so depressed that I can barely make myself get out bed. I am so emotional that I could cry about anything. One day I'm angry and then I wake up so depressed. I also should add that this just started in the past year... I also changed brands of birthcontrol pills too durning this time. I'm 33 and this week out of the month is so awful that I'd like to jump off the roof somedays.

Sorry but feeling emotional during your period is normal. It does not mean your depressed because your not.
If your having this feelings outside of your period time frame then get checked out.
Maybe you have hormonal imbalances please speak with your doctor but by no means the way you describe it is depression. Depression is long time and does not just come and go.

Any condition that is causing you emotional discomfort and concern is a problem and should be addressed. The fact that it is occurring during as opposed to pre-menstrual is somewhat unique (based on the symptoms and severity you cite). What type of birth control are you taking? What type did you switch from and why? That should be ruled out as a first step and I'll be happy look for any side effects. Also, has this condition worsened over this time or remained about the same in intensity?

There is an association between oral contraceptives (generally) and mood disorders, including depression. It is mentioned as a possible side effect for most including Alesse.
DrugRatings (user reporting) has a few reports of mood swings and depression similar to what you describe with the exception that the conditions seem to be constant as opposed to limited to the period of menses. Nonetheless you might want to read through these reports of other users available here (http://www.drugratingz.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=96) and see how they compare.

Why don't you consider giving yourself a break from oral hormonal birth control for a couple months-use a barrier method instead like condoms and spermicide? Then if your mood symptoms persist consider seeing your primary care doctor and having her/him evaluate you for a possible anti-depressant medication. I hated the way I felt personally on the pill. But every woman is different-good luck.

Well this is very normal. This is incredibly normal in this case. You just have your hormones going crazy and loopy. This swill get better within the next day or two after your period has ended. Don't freak out this is normal just relax. Get some rest and you'll feel better. =]
