I was arrested last night for theft under 5000. I just have some questions about the charge.
To explain what happened, I stole about 12-14 dollars worth of sour candies, and bubble gum from my local grocerry store at around 11am. My Excuse: there is none, I made a terrible terrible stupid mistake and am now terrified of the consequences.
I am a canadian citizen, 21 years old, and live in Ontario. My court date is in a month while my fingerprints are in 2 weeks. I have absolutely no previous criminal offences or charges whatsoever. I do however have a couple speeding tickets, as well as one intoxication in public ticket (walking home from a party), and one urinating in public ticket (outside of a bar).
I am wondering what I should expect?
Is there anything I should do before my court date? Should I visit the store manager, apologize and pay for the candy? Im assuming it was returned by the police but I'd like to pay anyways)
Am I facing Jail/Prison time? And if yes what kind of jail/prison time should I expect? I have no idea what prisons in Ontario are like. Are they dangerous? Would I be put with all the murderers and sexual predators and such?
Im absolutely scared out of my mind. Someone please respond and let me know what I should do and expect.
