You can try these fixes: bootmgr is compressed - Cyber Tech Help Support Forums (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151686)

How come you don't have an OS CD/DVD? Is it a second hand computer?

Many fixes that are OS-related require the original Windows CD/DVD; you should get it from the person you bought the laptop from. Or you could not use Windows and use a free Linux distribution such as Ubuntu or Mint.

If you can get your hands on a OS disk, not just the recovery disk, but say borrow an installation disk from someone, you can do a repair. Fixboot, fixmbr, or a repair through the OS disk will usually do the trick.

Thank you for the link, shall try it out what they have said and see if it works, at the moment I have had to get a new hard drive and reload it but if the other can be saved then good.
