I was either stung or bitten by a bug that looks just like a lightning bug in the pool in Florida. There was a red dot and hurt like a bee sting. My finger is itchy and swollen. I don't know what to do about the itch. The pain is gone. Do lightning bugs bite or sting?

No, they don't. I'm not familiar with critters in Florida. Someone will eventually come along who can help.

I had the same experience, exactly as you describe it. Either some lightning bugs do bite/sting 'like a bee' or something that looks a lot like a lightning bug does. I don't have the answer. Did you ever have any luck finding out anything?
