Hello,

I am a F1 student who has been working on campus, since my freshman year (SY 2007-Present).

I filed this year's tax through H&R Block online system using the 1040A form. Later on I found out that I actually needed to file using the 1040NR.

My friend told me that I have three years to amend it. How will I go about it? Also, does that mean the IRS would charge me extra because I made a mistake on my tax forms? I am assuming that there's a big difference between the returns as well.

Anyone that can point me to the right direction? Thank you!

For 2008 you need to file amended tax return Form 1040X with properly done nonresident tax return Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ and Form 8843. If you owe tax you must pay it. For penalty you can attach a letter Request For Waiver of Penalty giving reason as to why this happened.
