Hi,

Me and my wife (both citizens of India, I was on a H1B visa and she was on F1 with OPT authorization) worked in an university in the US as postdocs in the year 2009. We left the US permanently on June 29th 2009 and moved to Belgium where we are right now.

If anyone could help regarding which form we should use to file our tax return that would be great.

We e-filed the 2008 tax return jointly. Can we opt for e-filing this time too being outside the US? Which company should we use? Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

In case this information is helpful, I also wanted to add that my H1B expired in August 2009 and my wife's F1-OPT expired in October 2009. We left the US on June 29, 2009 (before our visas expired) but since our contract with the university ended in August 2009, so we got salaries till August 31, 2009.

Yes, you can file joint return as residents. On the return, you must report worldwide income for the year. Your U.S. Tax Return: U.S. Citizen or Resident with Foreign Income (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/03/us-citizen-or-resident-with-foreign.html)

If you have U.S. address, you can e-file the return. If you use foreign address, it can not be efiled. Send paper return.
