Take your spark plug out then put the wire back on it hold the elctrode end by a peace of metal and pull it over and see if there is spark that jumps across it

The above is BAD advice. Correct procedure.

1. Remove spark plug electrode wire
2. Remove plug
3. re-attach wire
4. Position the electrode so you can see the gap.
5. Hold the base of the plug to the meta of the engine with a piece of insulating material like wood
6. While pulling the starter, look for spark

Funny, I am working on it by myself. If I do everything you recommend - while pulling the starter at the back of the lawn mower - how would I be able to see a sparkt at the front of the lawnmower. Any suggestions? I will try it at night when it is dark.
But, Thank You .

Sometimes you can remove the rope from it's support point. It could be a twisted coil and the rope will slide between the spaces.

You could dry wedging something between a wall and the plug and pulling.

You could also try asking a neighbor to help.
