What does this phrase mean?
I'm reading an Anne of Cleves for my 11th grade research paper and don't know what this means...

"Some theorists believe that there is a chemical element in sexual attraction; it may have been at work here, in both Henry and Anne; instant repudiation upon his side, placid acceptance of the situation on hers. Otherwise, for Anne was young when she came to England, she might have borne strong sons."
--Anne of Cleves
Please help:)

Missy,
Break this statement down to usable fragments:

Theorists = Thinkers

.. "A chemical element in sexual attraction" - A metaphor for chemical properties, the rules for attraction and rejection

... "instant repudiation for him" Instant dislike.

... "placid accepetance for her." Neither like or dislike.
