I am going nuts trying to find a toy from the 90's. It is a kit that comes with a small tank and you mix some sort of gelatin solution and create an underwater scene with a mermaid and all that jazz supended in the gel. I remember the commercials and I need to find out what they were called. Google is just not helping a sister out here. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

I remember that too! I remember my best friend had one and we meant to do it, but we never did. :-\
I asked her about it and she swears it related to the Little Mermaid. She didn't think it was gel, but I believe she's wrong. Maybe she didn't have the toy I thought she had...
I've looked on eBay and Amazon and I can't find anything that we're thinking about, but there is an older "Little Mermaid" aquarium type thing that isn't a new toy.
So... who knows. Good luck!

I believe your talking about the "Wonder World" toys by Kenner. They had a naval battle scene, and a star wars scene among others.

Well, it was specifically a mermaid and a seahorse. Not so much a battle scene.

They had several different scenes. The one you are talking about, I believe was called "My Pretty Mermaid". It was originally produced by Kenner aka Hasbro, with some searching on eBay the star wars sets can still be found.

Dude, I think Wonder World sounds like it. I've been trying to figure this out, too. It's been driving me up the WALLS. I liked the one with the piranhas...

I have the mermaid one your asking about and the piranha and the shark and seahorse and star wars. The problem I have is I had to remove the gel for fear of it leeking everywhere during a move and can't figure out what to use instead. It's not quite the same as gelatin you would find in the store. And it seems to be impossible to find replacement gel as the toy is discontinued.
