An 18 year old General Electric dryer (Model DPSQ475ET) will not shut off. The dryer is able to dry a load of clothes, but never turns off. Moving the dial to any of the OFF positions does not work. The only way to have it stop running is to leave the door open (which also leaves the interior light on).

If the solution is to replace the timer, please include instructions on how to identify the timer, how to access the timer, and how to install a new one.

Thanks.

I have seen some with screws in the back, some with plastic pieces on each side that snap off, and expose screws. If manually turning the timer and the timer advances with time it may be OK, not for sure, but seems their may be a centrifugal type switch when the motor is spinning above a speed it keeps spinning,
Wonder if the Start switch is stuck closed, Removing 1 wire safely would verify.

For the timer nob, try pushing in and turning opposite direction.
