My husband and I are in our 70's and are currently the guardian of our son's ex-wifes child (no blood relation) and have been raising him for the past 5 years. It is becoming clear that we need to find another solution. We are just getting too old. The child's mother is still a drug user/gambling addict with no interest in the child. My son also has challenges with drugs so he is of no help.

What is the path to find a family to adopt this child? He is an adorable, healthy (ad/hd) boy --- what steps do I need to take to find a family for him? We don't want to release him into the foster care systems, it would break our hearts.

Thank you for your help.

Is there anyone else in YOUR family that would be willing to take over the guardianship?

How old is he? The older he is, the harder it will be to find a permanent placement for him.

I would start with a family law lawyer, honestly. You can't place him for adoption because you don't have parental rights to him.

No there is no one else who is appropriate. He is 5 years old. I was referred to the Kindship center so I am going to be speaking with them. Thank you for your help.
