I sold my truck 4 years ago to a guy. It was wrecked on I-5 about a month later. Never heard from the guy again. Now yesterday I got a letter from a impound company in another state saying the truck was impounded and I needed to pay for it. I don't know what to do. I haven't owned the rig in 4 years but the guy never registered it.

Do you have some sort of proof of sale? I had something similar happen to me when I donated a car to Volunteers of America several years ago. I got a registered letter from the CA Highway Patrol stating that the car was found abandoned on I-5 and that it had been impounded and I was liable for the charges. I nearly had a heart attack.

I called them and explained that the vehicle had been donated; they said that was all they needed to know and said I didn't have to worry about it. I did not have to send them anything at all and I never heard another word about it.

Call the number on the letter and explain what happened and see what they say; you might be surprised!

... I don't know what to do. I havn't owned the rig in 4 years but the guy never registered it.

Write the impound company and tell them that you sold it, and give them the name and address of the person you sold it to.

Contact the DMV and find out how to get your name off the title.

I wouldn't pay the impound company anything.

Thanks I'll call them today. I don't remember the guys name it was 4 years ago. I signed over the title to him. I didn't do a bill of sale.
