I have an old 60 pound dog with weak hind legs and a strong spirit. I want to get him a dog wheelchair. I'm hoping to find either a used one or plans to build a simple one that does not require welding. I ave so far only been able to find very expensive ones and complicated plans.

Thanks

Thanks. This requires welding. I feel like it's beyond my limited capabilities. But it does look like a good design.

You may be able to find someone experienced in welding that would be willing to help. Maybe try placing an ad in your paper or on Craigslist or another free listing site.

I'd help if you were close by, my husband can weld. Whereabouts are you? If you're not comfortable saying, no problem, but I may be able to help you find someone in your area.

Same here Alty, I would love to help (partner can weld) but I don't think there is anyone on this forum in my part of the world ;)

Good luck on your search for the wheelchair, and good on you for helping your dog gain mobility :)

My dad is a retired Under Waters Welder. Well an underwater weapons technician, which required A LOT of welding both on land and in water. He loves picking up side jobs. So we have both ends of Canada covered and Australia!

It does seem to be a good candidate for MIG welding. Although I have nearly no experience, I have.

1. ran a stick bead when I was 16 or so
2. Made a nice TIG seam without filler material (turned out nice)
3. Made a MIG seam

(3) was done with an auto darkening helmet. Makes it a lot easier.

The design looks simple enough, but there are parts left to the imagination.

It might be able to be brazed (silver soldered). I've done that more extensively.

The last idea was maybe it can be fiberglassed say over a wooden or wood and copper form?

Don't know.
