My father is about to pass away. I have been divorced for 2 years. Does my ex-wife have a right to the inheritance I am to receive when my father passes?

Hello wc:
Whatever rights she has are in the divorce decree. If it gives her rights, then it does. If it says NOTHING on the subject, then she has no rights to it.

I sure hope not, you ended the marriage so that you didn't have to share anymore, (kids and child support being an exception)
But like excon said, there should be no reason why she would be entitled to any of it since you received it after the marriage was ended, unless it's in the papers. I'd check.

I have NEVER seen divorce papers cover "what will happen when and if," aside from pension benefits.
I say she's entitled to nothing. She's not your wife.
If you win the lottery tomorrow, she's not entitled to that, either. Divorce papers, as I said, don't address possibilities/eventualities.

She's not going to get a cent even if she takes you to court. She is no longer your wife and as other posters pointed out did you have any provision regarding your inheritance incorporated into your divorce paperwork? If no, then she gets zip.
I have never seen such language ever being incorporated into a divorce settlement paperwork in all the years I worked at family law offices either. So if she is threatening to take you to court for this - she's blowing smoke in your face. Ignore her.
