So I posted a few days ago about dog food and such... well today I took him in too be shaved because of all the knots and not being able to get him back to white. Anyway after we got him home we were scratching his belly and noticed he had a tattoo. We knew that people did it to be able to find their pet if they ran away... but my b/f mentioned about it maybe being done by a breeder so we were wondering if anyone might be able to help us out with figuring out what his tattoo says. ALSO I was reading in one forum about shelters doing it we didn't get him from a shelter we got him online, he is also not fixed. I Put up pictures of the tattoo but you might have to turn them around or what not to make it out. (we think that three of the numbers are 601)

If you can, I would try taking pictures again from different distances. The pictures seem to be out of focus. The first one looks kind of like 11.106 Not sure though.

Yes, often people will keep track of their pets by tattooing them instead of microchipping.
Tattoos can also be done to show that a female dog has been spayed and the tat appears on the inside of the ear... yours however, I would say is a form of registration.

I'm suppose to spread some rep!
But I totally agree with shazzy. Breeders will tattoo their dogs as a form of micro chipping. Its also for dogs that get fixed. I once had a dog come through the rescue (male) that was tattooed the date of his neuter on his leg. It looked similar to what your showing. But since he's not fixed yet, then the tattoo is more than likely from a breeder.
