You might be worn out more by the end of the day. But unless you're doing something really physically demanding where you need more food for energy, I don't see why it would be a problem. My friends were always able to go to work and school while they were fasting. They just sometimes complained about being hungry

Do you have a really physically demanding job then I would say no.
If you can take time off for your fast would be better.
Also when fasting or going into a fast remember not to act or show off your fast to others. This needs to between you and God.
Good luck...

I am a Protestant... have crossed several different denominations over the years... none I have heard of prohibits work during fasting. This is a Christianity forum, and not an Orthodox Judaism forum where that might be frowned upon.

SouthAfrica - I think that your desire for wisdom is a good thing and something that the Scriptures teach that God is willing to give to those who seek it. However, I don't think it is a tit for tat sort of thing... you scratch God's back and he scratches yours. I don't think that God works that way.
I think that fasting is something that bible says we ought to do in the secrecy of our own heart. Jesus puts it this way:
“And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."
Frankly, I think that you coming here and asking this question is partly strange. Why don't you just fast and go about your business? Are you asking if God is unwilling to let you fast and go to work? You won't find that sort of answer in the bible but you will find a certain heart attitude that is displayed in the passage I quoted above. If you decide to fast, let it be between you and God only. Don't go around complaining about how hungry you are or how tired not eating has made you. If you have that sort of spirit, don't bother fasting at all. Let it be done from the inwardness of your own heart and mind.
Ultimately, wisdom from God is something that I don't see as connected to fasting as you seem to do. James says that God will grant wisdom to the one who asks for it. The real test of how sincere you are in wanting wisdom need not come from fasting... God already knows the hearts of people, including you. You need not punish yourself or suffer for God in order to get his attention. A contrite heart and humility are sufficient enough to gain an audience with God... in my opinion.

Sveral types of fast, sunrise to sunset, or a straight fast,
Liquids OK or just water.
If you read about fasting, you are to not let anyone around know you are doing it, just go about your daily activities as normal.
