There is a book I read in school, and I also watched the movie.

It was about a mother who suddenly picks up her kids in the middle of the night. She takes them out to the mall and say she will be right back. At about 10 at night the oldest child a girl decides their mother isn't coming back for them.

After this they go on long journey to find any relatives. They only find out they have one, their grandmother that they have never met before.

They end up sleeping on the shores, and eating fish/clams, and only have a dollar or something for money. They end up coming across a man and he shelters them a few nights. Then they end up having staying at some women's house, who makes them go to school and puts the youngest boy (who doesn't talk) in special classes.

After this they run away, and find that they can get to their grandmothers in a small town really close. They find out she lives across a lake and they use a boat and get there.

They don't tell her that she is their grandmother (She is a very mean old woman who lives alone), they only tell her that they are going around doing odd chores for cash. At first she denies them staying, but she ends up letting them. The house is very unkept so she lets them do the chores and allows them to stay.

Later she finds out and tells them they can't stay. They don't leave but later she decides that she wants them to stay.

((I realllly want to watch/read this again. If anyone has any ideas what it is I would REALLY appreciate it. It's such a good story. I tried looking it up multiple times but to no avail. :( ))
