My wife errantly deleted the shortcut for the recycle bin, I'm assuming it was sent to the recycle bin, and can be restored, but where do I find the recycle bin now?

Open up my computer.

Click on "Tools" and then "Folder Options".

Click the "View" tab and click the dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and also uncheck the box next to "Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended)".

Click "Apply" then "Ok"

Go to the C: drive and you should see a faded folder there called "Recycler"

Open that up, and you should see some seemingly random numbers on a file with the same icon that looks like you recycle bin.

Right click that and go to the "Send to" option and click on "Desktop (Create Shortcut)"

That should put it back on your desktop. I would suggest you go back and turn off the "Show hidden Files and Folders" and turn back on "Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended)". This will make things look a little neater, and will also prevent you from accidentally deleting some other important files.

Post back with any other questions.

Good Luck.

There are several simple methods; well, follow these simple steps:

First Method:
Click "Start" >> "Control Panel" >> "Appearance and Personalization"
>> "Personalization" >> "Change Desktop Icons"
>> select the "Recycle Bin" check box >> "Ok"

Second Method:
Open "My Computer" > click "Folder" [to change the view to folder view so that you can see lists of folders on the "left pane" if it's already there, no problem]
>> Look on the left pane, you'll see the "Recycle Bin" incon, just drag it with your mouse and drop it on the desktop, a "Recycle Bin" shortcut will be available on the desktop.

In case you can't see the "Recycle Bin" on the "Left Pane" click "tools" on the Windows Explorer Menu, select "Folder Options" click the "view" tab, scroll down and diselect "Hide Protected system files (recommended)" check box, you may get a warning message click "continue" or "Yes" or "Ok" and click "Ok" to close the "folder options" dialog box. And follow the steps in the "Second Method".

Good luck.
