I'm trying to replace all of the glow plugs on my 1991 F250, 7.3 IDI. The truck has Wastegate Turbo System from ATS, installed from the previous owner. I have obtained and looked at the turbo diagram from ATS website but can't seem to figure out how to remove the turbo to gain access to the glow plugs.

Diagram link: (http://www.atsdiesel.com/additionalinfo/2023056/7.3L%20Ford%20Wastegated%20Turbo%20System%20Layout %20v1.0.pdf)

My questions are: 1)How do I get the plugs on the right side of the engine (passenger side) with out removing the turbo components? 2) If removing the turbo components is a must, what's the most efficient way? 3) Is the turbo component (pressure chamber, turbo assembly) slide-to-fit the pipes of both the exhaust and the intake? Bottom line is how do I gain access to the glow plugs?

Great thanks for your help. Jason

It sounds like you have extenuating circumstances, but here's how it is normally done:

Removal and installation. With the engine "stone cold," disconnect batteries, remove valve cover, disconnect glow plug connector, remove glow plug with a 10 mm deep socket, install new glow plug (torque to 13 ft.-lbs.), and reattach connector. After finishing the remaining 3 glow plugs on that bank, clean valve cover, install new gasket, and reinstall valve cover (torque to 97 in.-lbs.). Do the same thing for the other bank of glow plugs and reconnect batteries. Not a difficult job--should take several hours.

I don't know if this will help you or not.
