I have noticed over the past few months that small bubbles form out from the drain hole of one of our toilets whenever it is flushed. There is no foul smell associated with this. Then this week while someone was taking a shower upstairs, this toilet downstairs began to gurgle loudly and then a few seconds later there was a huge burp sound and water began to fill the toilet bowl and overflow onto the floor. Another couple of minutes and another huge burp sound and the toilet bowl completely drained. When I flushed it afterwards, more tiny bubbles but it flushed completely and refilled correctly. Today someone was taking a shower upstairs in a different bathroom and the same thing happened downstairs in this toilet. What can be done and do I need to hire a plumber?

BTW, the septic tank does NOT overflow... it is the toilet bowl that overflows.. sorry for the confustion in the subject line.

Locate the house cleanout and open it up. It should be on the same side as the septic tank.
Now flush both toilets at the same time and watch the open cleanout . Do you see standing water or any backup? Let me know, Tom
