I am in the process of installing a Kenmore 36" downdraft vent on an island behind a 36" radiant Kenmore stovetop that rests in front of it. I have cut out the counter top as per instructions for the stovetop, but my question is the downdraft is a telescopic one that has come with a template of 33" long which allows 11/2" on each side for the downdraft vent of 36" to rest on the counter top when not in use.
The directions state to put the template up next to the edge of the cooktop and trace around it. There is approximately 1 inch of countertop between the cut out opening for the downdraft and the edge that the cooktop rests on. My question is if I do this the only way it appears for me to get the downdraft in is to take off the 1 inch edge of the countertop that holds the one side of the cooktop. Because the telescope part of the downdraft over hangs 11/2" on each side that is not cut out, only 33", this allows the telescope part to rest on the countertop when not in use. It appears that the only way to slide the downdraft into the cut out is to remove the 11/2" piece of countertop holding up the cooktop on that side and lift the countertop over the downdraft. Is is correct the directions don't explain how the downdraft is put into place. If I do this I will have to cut out most of one side of the countertop that holds the cooktop in order to slide the downdraft into the cutout, that is behind the cooktop. Can the telescope part that raises up be taken off to allow it to be installed into the cut out part of 33" leaving the 1 inch piece of countertop for the cooktop to rest on? Anyone information would be greatly appreciated.
