Hi, I am starting middle school and I am so worried I have a lot of questions so I will shoot them. How do you get in detention? What is study hall? How will you get to class if your class is on one side of the school and your locker is on the other, and you promised your friend that you would talk to her before class? Would you bring your phone to school so you can text between classes? Can I have a boyfriend in 6th grade or would I get destracted? Is there a popular table etc. in the lunch room? Am I going to sit in the same table for lunch for the hole school year? How would I get a map of the school, to know where I am going? Should I save my planner from 5th grade so I can use it in middle school? I NEED HELP!!

I'll try to help, but some of these will depend on the school you're going to be going to.

How do you get in detention?
By breaking the rules.

What is study hall?
Study hall is a class period just for doing homework. Some teachers may allow talking, others want complete silence.

How will you get to class if your class is on one side of the school and your locker is on the other, and you promised your friend that you would talk to her before class?
If you have class on the other side of the building from your locker, then you don't agree to meet your friend before that class. Being late for a class is like being late for school in the morning.

Would you bring your phone to school so you can text between classes?
Your school may not allow cell phones. You'd have to read the rulebook to find out.

Can i have a bf in 6th grade or would i get destracted?
That'll be up to you, and your parents.

Is there a popular table etc. in the lunch room?
There might be. If you get to pick where you sit in lunch, then you'll figure it out about a month into school. Until then, people are still figuring out where they want to sit and who they want to eat with.

Am i going to sit in the same table for lunch for the hole school year?
If you get assigned seats at lunch, then you probably will. If you get to pick where you sit, then you might end up sitting at a different table every week, or sitting at the same table all year.

How would i get a map of the school, to know where i am going?
You'll probably get one before school starts, or on the first day of school. If not, then you can ask in the office if they have any, or ask teachers and older students for directions.

Should i save my planner from 5th grade so i can use it in middle school?
You can if you want. If you don't end up needing it, then you can always throw it out.

You're welcome.

In my experience, middle school isn't much different than elementary school. There was no big change for me. Different building. Different teachers. Different schedule during the day. A lot of the same kids. Same groups of people (the popular kids, the nerds, the band geeks, the quiet/shy kids). Same silly fights.

When you get there, you'll probably find that high school isn't much different than middle school. And college won't be much different than high school.

You won't notice a real difference until you're looking back on it from a few years later.

Is fifth grade a lot different than fourth grade? Probably not. Is fifth grade a lot different than first grade? Definitely

Hey,taylor here again still even though I had a great and I mean great post to a lot of my answers I still have more. Can any one give me some of the extra curriclum classes from their school? Can anyone describe your lockers at your school? p.s. I need a lot of locker discriptions. Would you bring your purse (for girls). Give me some examples of what should be in their. What if you droped your books and a boy picks them up, does that mean he likes you or is trying to be nice? When would you start looking for a boyfriend? If you and your boy are boyfriend and girlfriends then would you try to kiss in school or on a date? When you had your first few kisses, would you try one in school? I NEED HELP AGAIN!!

.

As per classes.. Pre-algebra, Language Art which entails; persuasive writing, idioms, metaphors, etc. Gym and Science and History. Leave the boys alone and concentrate on your studies.

No contact such as kissing or any form of bodily contact is allowed.
About the purse, I think it will be okay. Ask your teacher or look in the student handbook you will be given. Good Luck:)

Extra curriculum classes will vary by school. My middle school didn't even have lockers. No, I wouldn't bring my purse to school. It's much easier to get a good backpack and keep everything in there (books, notebooks, loose leaf paper, pens, highlighters, #2 pencils, folders and/or binders, always keep a tampon and/or pad in there too just in case of emergencies). If a boy picks up your books, it means he's mature and polite-don't waste time reading into it. And do not look for a boyfriend in middle school. I'd wait until at least 16 or 17, maybe even 18 to look for a serious boyfriend. And when that time comes, maybe a quick peck at school or on a date, otherwise no more than hand holding and hugging in public.

At my middle school there was definitely a table for the "popular" kids. I transferred in in the middle of the year and was immediately invited to sit with them and hang out with them during break. I didn't realize that they were the "cool" kids until I ditched them (they were kind of boring and really snotty to everyone else) and went to the outcasts' table. Right away one of the girls warned me that if I sat next to her I would never be allowed to sit with the popular girls again. She turned out to be right. They never spoke to me again any time they could avoid it, even throughout high school. And I never really cared. Because as far as I could tell they stayed the same little snobby brats all through high school. So yeah, there could be a table full of the "popular" kids. Don't stress over it if you're not there. It's not all its cracked up to be.

It might help you get more comfortable if you go and wander around the campus before school starts. If you have your schedule, you can figure out where your classes are. Pay attention to building numbers or names, things like where the gym is and where the bathrooms are. I'm in college and I still like to walk around the campus before my classes start so I know where I'll be going later.

There may be a chance for you to get a tour of the school before the school year starts. Just go during normal school hours within a month of school starting. The teachers and everyone will probably be there to get the school set-up and ready for students, anyway. Someone might have a couple minutes to spare to show you around and answer questions.

Can any one give me some of the extra curriclum classes from their school?
Choir, band, drama, art, home ec, etc.

Can anyone discribe your lockers at your school? p.s. i need a lot of locker discriptions.
Our lockers were about as tall as us. Some were very skinny, and had a wider, extra, little locker space above them. The other ones were just regular person-height lockers.

Would you bring your purse (for girls). Give me some examples of what should be in their.
I didn't bother taking a purse to school in middle school. We were allowed to have them in the classrooms. Anything I needed, I just kept in my bookbag.

What if you droped yuor books and a boy picks them up, does that mean he likes you or is trying to be nice?
It means he was nice enough to not ignore you or laugh, or just step on your books. It doesn't always means he likes you.

When would you start looking for a boyfriend?
I didn't start dating till I was 16, so I can't answer this one.

If you and your boy are boyfriend and girlfriends then would you try to kiss in school or on a date?
Most schools have a no PDA (public displays of affection) rule. You could get in trouble if a teacher sees you kissing in school

When you had your first few kisses, would you try one in school?
See above

In the future, if you have more questions in the same topic, you can just add them to the first thread you started. A mod will probably merge this thread with that one. It helps keep everything neat and easy to find.

I'm just about to leave middle school and yeah, basically it was the same. The teachers cared less about you enjoying what you are doing and more on getting the work done. I always bring my purse into school, even when I have lunches from home because it has my bus pass in it. But I have a bag in which contains all of my stuff, pencil case e.c.t.

In my school, it's not like, when do you start looking for a boyfriend. It's more, if there's a boy you like like then fine. Really you shouldn't kiss in school, but if you really want to make sure there's no teachers around in my school it's a straight detention.

In my middle school there are the 'popular kids' and they are separated into two groups, the ones who stand out and the ones who fit in. then there's the boy geeks and the girl geeks, and the 'others' who fit into none of those categories.

Giving advice to another student about how not to get caught kissing a boy in school is not very smart. Most of your advice was great but the part about the "not letting any teachers see you if you kiss a boy" was not good advice.

Middle school is much to young for dating. Though there may be geeks and "others' as you put it, no one is any better than anyone else. Some of those "geeks" will be in
The Corporate world making billions, while the cool kids and the jocks are struggling to make ends meet after getting married to young, dropping out of college and working a job they hate.
