I may got a job offer in next week but I don't have an SSN now.

I heard that SSN application would usually takes 2 weeks and I really want to catch H1B application in the coming April 1st. Currently I am in OPT period.

My questions are:

1. Do I have to receive the SSN before start working ? Or I could get started once I applied one but not receive it yet ?

2. For H1B application, was it the same case that I could apply for it once I applied for SSN but not receive it yet ?

Thanks in advance,

You do not need a SSN to apply for the H-1B. Also, you should be able to get your SSN with your OPT EAD. The April 1 H-1B filing is for a job start date of October 1, 2010.
