I have an old well about 70ft deep. Jet style pump. I am losing water and pressure right at the pump house. If I use the hose after few miin I will have little water and no pressure coming out. I am pretty sure I need to replace the pump anyway but I am worried there is a problem with the well. Any advice would be apreciated.

1. Does the pump hold prime all right?
2. Am I right in assuming the pump is cutting on as pressure begins to drop? If so, how long does it take to pump up to cut off pressure?
3. Why do you think the pump needs replacing?

I have never had to prime the pump. It takes a good 5 to 10 min for the pump to shut off after it has turned on. The pump was overheating and triping the breaker this winter. Although there is a heater in the pump house on the same circuit. But we have never had problems in the past.

Also it would only trip the breaker after the pump had run for a very long time. Like when we are doing dishes and laundry at the same time. (large abounts of water consumption at any diven time)
