I just purchased a home with a HEIL split system heat pump. The existing system is 18+ years old, and officially deceased.

I'm considering Goodman for a replacement. I have read about several problems with Goodman furnaces but they seem to be centered around the gas models. The system I'm replacing and the new ones I'm looking at use electric heat strips for backup. Has anyone had any good or bad experience with the electric air handler units from goodman?

BTW, the systems I'm considering are either 14 seer, 3.5-4 ton w/r-22 and fixed speed blower OR 15 seer, 3.5-4 ton w/r-410 and variable speed blower. I did have a local contractor check the existing system. I also had him get the figures for J manual calculations, so I should be able to narrow dow exactly what I need.

thanks,

jeff

I have goodman hp with electric backup. Unit is only 4 years old and I have had no problem with mine. I do keep coils clean and always keep a clean filter in it.

Just noticed you are from Indiana. I lived my entire life up there except for the last 4

Goodman is a value based appliance. I might put in one of there A/C's if in a financial pinch. I would never buy one of their gas furnaces even though they have done some major improvements to them. I think you usually get what you pay for. Shop around, you may find a Rheem/Ruud or American Standard/Trane for just a few hundred dollars more. These are the two brands I trust and most consumer reports have rated them in the top 10 for many years.
