Been living in patio home (1485 square foot) home for 8 years and complained of being cold every winter. Some of the vents does not blow adequate air in the rooms and the air is cold and not warm air at times. Had a HVAC owner comes to my home to check and stated that I have flexiducts, which are not good, one had a hole. My questions are:

What are the best duct materials/types for a home?
Why around carpet at the baseboards, the carpet is dirty?

Thanks South Carolinian

Well, this part of the question is easy... thats the space a vacuum cleaner misses. And it common on light colored carpets that haven't been cleaned frequently.

I assume you have your ducts overhead... and your house is on a slab.

That would put them into the unheated attic space... making the heating less efficient in winter as well as cooling in summer. If they are for starters you want them insulated. Smooth rigid ducts are clearly better as they offer less resistance to airflow.
