I just got a 4 mth old doxie pup and I am having a hard time potty training him. I take him out all the time. Maybe too much! I don't know how much water to give him and when because I don't want him to use the potty on the floor. DOES THAT MAKE SINCE. I feel like I carry him around all the time so that I can keep and eye on him. Can someone give me some advise. Thanks

Hi Tonyswife, this thread is really old, so if you start a new one, you will be sure to get more help! Just try and be as detailed as possible :)

Done :)

Water should be given freely throughout the day although you can take the water away about an hour before bed time.

The key to potty training is just being consistent.

Every time your pup wakes up or has something to eat or drink take him outside and just wait. You may have to sit out there with him for 15-20 minutes or he may go straight away but always have some treats on hand and give him LOTS of praise when he pottys on the grass.

Hi TOnyswife. With puupies, it really is best if they have constant access to fresh water. Yea you will have to take them out often, and there really isn't such a thing as too much! Persistence and patience is key.

You can try barracading him off in a certain area of the house so he doesn't have free roam. You can crate at night and while you are away. Every time a puppy or dog eats or drinks it puts pressure on their colon and bladder, so it's a safe bet to say anytime they eat or drink take them out.

They will catch on. Some dogs faster then others, but as long as you are consistent and patient you will have success.

Sorry for the mix up there... I was moving your piggybacked question to a new thread just as you started one.
