In my previous post I mentioned my unhappiness, the friends that I do have don't really know/understand my situation and they don't really help either. One of my friends suggests going out and getting plastered. I always make her the promise that I will, but then I often change my mind to stay home work on HW, visit my boyfriend or just do absolutely nothing. In turn, I feel bad because I feel like I let her down by not going out with her. But then I feel like I am doing the right thing by taking care of what is stressing me out. I also feel like weekends should not be HW and taking caring of problems all of the time. Again, advice anyone?

You do need to take care of yourself. Remember on the airplanes, where they tell parents of young children to put on their own masks first? If you are not happy and healthy, it's hard to look after other people.

However, I'm not convinced that going out and getting plastered is the way to do that, especially as you don't really want to, you are just agreeing to make your friend happy.

How about joining some sort of social group? If you are at home with young children, see if you can find a Moms 'n Tots group, where the little ones can play and you can talk to other women in the same situation.

If you have times when your children are at playschool, how about joining some sort of class? I can highly recommend a creative writing group to give you a completely new focus. Suddenly all the things in your life are not just annoying, they are fodder for your writing.

Make sure you get regular exercise. It's brilliant for cheering you up, and will help you stay sane and healthy too.

Going out and getting drunk only make things worse. You're smart enough to know that.
Perhaps some of your good sense will rub off on her.

Tell your friend you don't think going out and getting drunk would do you any good.

You could perhaps go out and have soft drinks, there's no rule that says you have to get plastered.

In answer to your question, yes do take time for yourself, but doing what you enjoy doing, not what others think is best for you, you know yourself best..

Live your life for you...
