My 14 year old Delta kitchen faucet is not running water. It started to run when I moved the lever up then just stopped (doesn't work hot or cold); all other house faucets work. Can there be leaks in both the cold and hot pipes coming in or is it the faucet stopped in the off position?

Thank you. I did try that and didn't do it. I think the faucet needs replacing because when I ran the rinse on the dishwasher(separate line in, next to sink) it ran okay. When I turn off the hot and cold water line under the sink the water starts dripping through the valve so I think the water is OK coming up to the faucet?

Have you done any plumbing work recently in your house?

You may have dirt inside your faucet, or bad cartridge/stem depends on your faucet, please tell us the model, Thanks.

I had a water heater replaced January 2009. Our winter is really mild here this year and so I don't think it is a pipe broke. To answer your question it is a 14 year old Delta, one handle, faucet that I can't find a model number on it.
Thank you.

The closest is the 340-DST with the sprayer in black and the handle has a round ball shape on the tip; probably made and installed in 1995, so closer to 15 years old. This is a condo so not expensive fixture, glad to get that long out of it I guess.

Here is what you need to do, first close the angle valves under the sink, remove the handle, remove the dome and the cartridge, have a towel ready to catch the water open the angel valve one by one for a few seconds and see the water flow, if flow is good then it will tell you that the problem is with the cartridge, clean and install check now if water is running good the problem is fixed, if not fixed you need to replace the cartridge and you can get one from Delta for free no charge to you, for removal and installation open the link below, good luck.

Thank you for all your help, you have been great! I'm not sure if the valve assembly is the same as the cartridge or not. When I removed everything down to the rotating 'ball' part with the stem both water source flowed fine. I could see the three hole, two of which have a ring and spring that I did not remove.

This should be your faucet, (see image). Shut the water off and remove the handle, dome, ball and seats and springs. Now place a pan over the valve and turn the water back on to flush out the supplies and valve body. You should have a full stream while doing this. If not tell me.
Reassemble and test. Better now? Tom
