I have a 3 1/2 month old German Shephard Pitt bull mix pup. Her ears had already stood up and were perfectly straight. But about a weeek ago she started teething and her left ear seemed to deflate and now just hangs there I don't think she hurt it or anything because I can touch it we tried folding it backwards but that really didn't do anything If any one has any explinations or tell me that once she stops teething her ear will go back to normal I will really appreceate it :)
Thank you
Melanie

Her ears will go back up once she reaches maturity. Would really like to see a pic of your pup, can you post it ? Just interested to see what that cross looks like.

The dominate gene will determine if the pups ears are going to stand up straight or not. Not all pitties have the rose ear, some have the floppy ears. If the pittie gene is stronger, and the gene calls for floppy years, then there might not be much you can do for her as far as her ears standing up.

I have heard of people gluing the ears together at the tips so that the cartelidge grows straight up, not floppy.

Yea but the thing is they were up and perfect looking I was so excited because it hought there would be no german shepherd about her at all but then her ear went down and now I'm a little concerned that something is wrong with her. But is that any linkage between her teething and her ear going down?

Odds are they will come back up again if they were up before teething.
I don't know exactly why it happens but their ears dropping during teething is very common in any prick eared breed.

You can tape the ears, but honestly unless you are showing or HAVE to have that look it isn't worth the trouble.

I have a puppy here who I am currently taping (see avatar pic), it's a pain in the butt. He always scratches his tape off and what he doesn't scratch off I have to use products to spray on to dissolve the glue, and the spray on stuff is even harder to get off than the glue residue!

Thank you for your advice:) I was hoping it would go back up after the teething I just needed some reassuence. I heard of people using glue instead of tape by just glueing the tips of the ears with a fabric glue then just cutting the glue off carfully after like a month. That taping sure dose seem like a pain in the butt and I don't think either of us have the patiens to tape a puppies ears hehehe

I don't have the patience either lol!
Mine's a show dog though so the breeder would hunt me down and strangle me if his ears weren't perfect. :D

I quite like it when the ears tip over on the ends, it usually makes them look like puppies even when they are in their golden years.

Jeeze I wish I did something cool like that with dogs I love them so much Im always watching The dog whisperer or Animal planet hahaha.

I'd love to be a dog trainer, or anything working with dogs really. Unfortunately, the only school are a looong way away from where I live so I just have to stick to learning by experience.

Your pup is gorgeous, would love to see some more photos when you can get them.

I remember once at a dog show a woman told me that unless he is pure bred German Shepherd then the ears will not stand up.I don't know how true that is. My mother bred German Shepherds and she always said that pure breds ears will stand up with out being taped. Did the pitbul parent have rose ears with out being cropped?

Don't worry about the pic sizes ;)
She gorgeous, I'm not sure if that's true or not Aurora, I guess it depends on what was inherited.
If she inherited the GS ears then there's a good chance they will come up on their own, but if she inherited the Pits drop ears then they may stay down.
They do look rather Shepherd like though so I'll put my money on them coming back up.

Funny you should say that tickle her eyes already do give me a hard time there so expressive:)
I have no idea about her doggie daddy my boyfriend brought her home one day she was free he saw her mom and they said she was a full blood german shepherd. Who knows her fur is getting a red-brown shepherd look to it :)
