I saw a French language film called, in English, "Captain XXX's Regiment" and can't remember the XXX part. In French it may be written "Le Regiment de Capitaine XXX"

It concerns an island that is a French colony in the Pacific Ocean. A Captain in the French army is sent there to recruit men for the Western Front during WW1. In the past, the island has been protected by an ancient magic spell associated with pearls formed from the eyes the victims of a powerful chieftan. The spell makes the island invisible. Some of the pearls have been taken by people recounting the history of the island in the late 20th century. These pearls are rerturned to the sea at the end of the film returning the island's protection of invisibility.

The story includes a colonial Governor who is insane, the descendent of the most recent chief being half French and only 12 or so years old, Germans invading the island towards he end of the story, an underwater cave where the pearl eyes are held and many intriguing features that make it an interesting film. I'd like to buy a copy but don't know what to ask for.

Thanks that's it. I should have known that the title would not be a direct translation when shown on English language TV. Now I just need to find out where to buy a copy, with subtitles.
