Hi. I don't remember exactly when it happened but our upstairs bathroom sink just doesn't work. I finally want to fix it but not sure what is even the matter.

It has one lever so I'm not sure if it's a disc or ball faucet. When you lift the lever to either side (or middle) it either drips or has a very very very tiny stream dribble down. When I went under the sink to check the shut off valves, I was confused. I know nothing about plumbing but learn quickly by doing.

I turned the hot water valve which was all the way counter clockwise, clockwise and it sprayed everywhere. The cold water valve was all the way clockwise and when I turned it counter clockwise it sprayed everywhere.

I have not the slightest clue what is wrong with the sink. Or if the valves are supposed to react that way. I don't even know which way the valves should be turned and find it odd they are both turned to different directions.

Anyone can shed light on any of this would be very helpful. Want to avoid plumbers.

The angle valve is turned on clockwise and off counter clockwise.

As to spraying need more info. Where is spray coming from (location)?

Once the spray problem is corrected we can work on faucet.

Please see the Image below and it will tell which direction to S/O water and which direction to open,
Clockwise valve will close no water counter clockwise valve will open and water will flow, good luck.
