Let me see if I understand what you are saying: Your dog does not bark at people she doesn't know.
Why is this a problem?
Just because a dog does not bark at unknown people does not mean that the it doesn't know when there is a threat.
It is a sign of how much your dog trusts you that she doesn't feel the need to be overly assertive or aggressive. Take it as a compliment.

Would you rather she barks at every person that walks by your house or into your house?
She's not much of a barker. That's great. Trust me, having a dog that barks at everything gets annoying after around 1 hour.

Labs are loving, people oriented dogs. They're at their happiest when your with them.
They're also retrievers and will bring you things they find laying about your house or yard.
They're generally quite patient with children and wonderful family dogs. They are not guard dogs. They may bark protectively, but will generally not act more aggressively.
Like I said Labs are wonderful people dogs, more likely to lick someone to death than hurt them. They tend to be stable, not easily upset by strange things or occurrences. They will actually take most things in their stride so your lucky you chose this breed , unless of course you wanted a constant barker.

I have a lab cross and everything M says is true.
He is the most patient dog. He's great with our kids, he's great with anyone who comes over.
The only time I ever saw him react to a stranger is when this guy came over selling magazines. I didn't open the screen door and Indy was beside me. I told the guy that I wasn't interested and instead of taking no for an answer, he opened the screen door. Indy growled and went to lung at him. Thankfully the guy realized he was wrong and closed the screen door.
Indy also hates rollerblades. If a rollerblader comes by the house he'll bark and then hide.
They're a gentle quiet breed. Not barkers. Not guard dogs. This is why they make such excellent working dogs for the blind.

I wish my dogs wouldn't bark at strangers... they drive me nuts sometimes... every little sound or voice outside gets a RARF RARF RARF!!
