I have a 3 speed fan (230 VOLT AC) that stopped working.
At first I expected that the pull down 3-speed switch was broken, found all in good working order. Checked with multimeter. Than the capacitor 2.5 microfarads checked all OK. I than checked the motor windings and found the common point of the windings are open circuited. Dismantling the stator, I found at the common point of the windings a small electronic device. I measure it and found it open circuit. I expect that it is a sort of an overload protection/ surge device; the printing on the device is not readable. Can anyone help with further info?

I have never seen or heard of that before. Most fan motors are impedance protected.

What make is the fan?

Oh, it's a wall fan.

You need to contact the manufacturer.
