Hello,

This is my second time doing taxes. The past year a person did my taxes and I have no idea what he did, but he passed away and now I have no idea what should I do.

I'm here for a year and a half now under h1b visa. I have two daughters in another country and paying child support for my daughters with the money I'm earning here. I'm renting and the only thing I bought was a car.

I try to do some turbotax online but it says that I'm not able to put my daughters as dependantes because they were not living with me, and using this scenario I have to pay on top of all the payments I did. Is this correct? There is no way to have my daughters as dependants?

Thanks and sorry for my ignorance on this subject.

On H1-b you can file resident tax return.
You can claim child as your dependent (qualifying child) only when the child lives with you. If the child lives with your spouse, you can claim the child on the joint return.

For new car purchase benefit, with your tax return complete schedule L (Form 1040). Check box 40b on Form 1040. The sales taxes, local taxes and excise duty paid on the new car appear as increase in the standard deduction.
