I have a main line, 2nd line, and DSL. The second line is supposedly only available in one room. The original idea was to have one phone with two lines coming into it for lines 1 & 2 on one cable.

The wires connected at the jack looked normal black to black, red to red, green to green, and yellow to yellow.

I found my 2 line phone to be too annoying because it beeps me when the second line rings so I bought a new jack with two lines. (the other one had the wires crimped so I couldn't move them)

When I connect R2R, Y2Y, G2G, and B2B the phone works one both lines on one 3-pair cable.
When I connect R2R and G2G line 1 works on any phone.
When I connect R2Y and B2G line 2 does not work on any phone or cable. I even tried R2B and Y2G.

Any ideas?

Thanks :)

When you start swapping wires in effect your making line2 line 1 for that jack. That way you can have a separate phone (single line) for line 2.

20/20 hindsight. The easiest way to deal with your issue is to get an adapter jack. This plugs into a 6P (6 position) modular connector and breaks out the lines as L1+L2, L1 and L2. http://support.radioshack.com/support_phones/doc40/40372.htm

It allows a standard phone to access either line 1 or line 2 depending on what jack is used. A two line phone can be plugged into L1+L2 if desired.

You have DSL, but you haven't said what line that's on and how your handling it. Filters or a single splitter.
