View Full Version : Rotting Exterior Siding

A portion of my exterior siding is rotting. It is right above where my deck starts on the back of the house. When we had the home inspected before we bought it, the home inspector did warn me that there really wasn't anywhere for the water to go when it came off the bottom of the siding (the deck is flush up against the exterior wall). It appears to only be rotting in a narrow space and I am willing to replace that strip of siding, but I'd rather not replace the whole wall of siding. Is that possible?

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I should replace it or what would serve as a good instructional manual?

Is there anything I should look out for when I'm replacing it?

I'm a bit of a home repair novice (obviously) but I'm willing to learn. Having said that, is this something I should really hire someone to do?

Any pointers would be appreciated.
