Hi,

Thank you so much in advance for helping us.

About myself:
1. Went to US in 2006 on F1
2. Got a job and my H1B started on Oct 13, 2008. I didn't leave US for stamping.
3. I left my job on November 11, 2009 and left US next week for good.

I filed my taxes for year 2008 using 1040NR - as a non-resident.

Now I meet the substantial presence test for 2009 and so I should file tax as a resident. But as I left US before Dec 31 '09.. I am confused...

Now, I am wondering if :
1. Should I file my 2009 tax as a Resident using form 1040.. or 1040EZ ?

2. Should I file it as Dual Status and file both 1040 and 1040NR.. I don't want to file in Dual Status unless its compulsory.. to avoid the mess.

3. Should I inform IRS in any way that I have left US

4. For home address.. should I fill my US address. I changed apt during 2009... so I have 2 addresses.

I might sound stupid.. but as of now I don't know where to start :(

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Deepti

If you filed as a resident, you had to:

1) Report all world-wide income received in Tax Year 2009.

2) Submit a Residency Termination Statement (RTS). You can find out the contents of the RTS by downloading IRS Pub 519. The requirement is described on page 10.
