I have a zephyr typhoon ak2100 exhaust fan and one day the lights and fan just stopped working. I thought the power went out, but everything else in my kitchen is working except for the exhaust fan. My brother even tried to take it apart, but we're not sure what needs to be looked at. Please help.

You need to have a voltage tester.Could be a defective switch, broken splice or connection. Without a tester your only guessing.

One day I turned on the light, it flashed brightly, then nothing. I figured a fuse or the controller burned out. I call the place where I bought it and they gave me the number of their service line. You can also Google this up.
The Zephyr A2100 has a 10-year parts warranty. I called their help line, described what happened, and suggested that in my opinion the control board had fried. The service person on the phone agreed and said they would send me a new control board with instructions on how to install it. I could install it myself or call a service person. I think it would be a waste of time and money to call a service person to fix it, since they could not do so without the replacement board. Two weeks later the board had not arrived and I called again. Eight days later, a little over three weeks after I first called, the board arrived with the instructions and a patch cord and I was able to install the thing myself in about an hour. If you are handy, you can do it yourself, or you can call a service person after you have the part.
I think it is a bad design to have a control board that fries itself when a bulb fails, this is poor design. I did notice that the new board had a fuse installed, which the first one didn't. Despite the fact that the bulbs cost about $8 a piece, I think I will replace them every three years, just to avoid the trouble of replacing the fuse, or the risk that the board will fail again. Despite the rather poor initial design of the board with a built in sure-to-fail mode, Zephyr did stand behind their parts warranty and eventually provide the replacement part. We really like the fan for its looks, power and the multiple levels of fan speed and light, so despite the initial cost and the inconvenience of the failure mode, we still love the fan.

You may be confused by the way I wrote the above. You need to Google up the Zephyr customer support line in CA.
