How do you find the load wire

Well, there is only a load wire if the load wire is present in the box. Sometimes the feed is in the box. Sometimes both.

One thing that is always present are the travelers. They go on the gold screws and will always come from the same cable.
The load or feed goes on the "common" terminal.
