My grandson, 15 years old, wants to become emancipated. His home life is very disfunctional; he is suffering in school; spends most of his time away from the house to avoid conflict. He has a contact with Child Social Services, but he needs more information about the process and where to start.

His best bet would be an attorney but I assume at the age of 15 he can't afford one. You say that his home life is dysfunctional - what is going on in the home? What does Child Protective Services have to say about it? Where would your grandson live if he were to become emancipated?

They would have to show they can live entirely on their own without any help from any other source. Also most people don't realize but emancipation of a minor is not permanent. It can and will be revoked if not followed.

He would have to show that he needs to and there is a valid reason.

He would have to have a job that pays enough for him to pay rent ( live on his own, not just "with" someone, and pay all living expenses. He would have to show he has a plan to continue his education also.

He then has to have enough money for an attorney, and show the court he has the money for rental and utilities deposit and the such.

Assuming you are not at his home, did you want guardianship?
